“Be careful out there…”
OK, that’s good advice and all bicyclists should live by it. But cyclists can only do so much. When we are riding our bicycles on the road, we are at the mercy of a biased "car-centric" culture that – sadly – sees bike riders as a nuisance. Even though cyclists have the legal right to use the road, most motorists do not understand that and feel justified putting them in danger by, for example, passing too closely at high speed (being “buzzed”), turning in front of them (the “right hook”), or opening car doors in their path (“dooring”). Unfortunately, these thoughtless acts on the part of motorists lead to serious injuries for cyclists. Worse, many people have come to believe a cyclist “assumes the risk” of being struck by a thoughtless driver when riding a bicycle down the road. And that is not the case.
Huntsman Law advocates for the protection of bike riders by trying to raise the profile of cyclists on the roads of California. We strive to educate the public about the rights of cyclists and the best practices for communities to create a safe environment for cyclists. But there is a lot of work still to be done, and cyclists are endangered and injured every day.
Huntsman Law will vigorously seek compensation for your injuries if you are riding your bicycle and injured by a thoughtless driver or hazardous road condition. While we cannot undo injury or suffering, we can put that suffering into words so that we can seek damages for you. We are dedicated to obtaining the very best recovery possible for you through experienced, professional and aggressive representation.
In addition, we are aware that the laws applicable to riding bicycles on public roads are confusing. If you feel you have received a traffic ticket unjustly, or if you feel your rights to use the road are being unjustly restricted, we are eager to hear from you.
